Sports in Seoul and South Korea

An F1 circuit

Korea has been very successful in recent years in attracting many major international sports events including for example the football World Cup and which changed the game of football (soccer in American) in this country. With many mountainous areas this is also a great country for sports such as skiing and snow-boarding and do not forget horse racing at Seoul race track. There are many options for sports enthusiasts to enjoy Korea and below we take a look at some of the best options. (You can also of course read the book chapters on Sports in Seoul.

Korea has the K-League but many of the best international Korean players tend to play abroad in Europe including in the English Premiership. The national team seem these days to qualify for the major tournaments and do well in the Asian Cup. More on football in Korea.

Motor Racing

Winning the rights to one of the formula 1 races has been a coup for Korea. The South Cholla province circuit is perhaps not the easiest circuit to get to for many F1 fans from around the world, but what matters is that F1 is now in Korea. Learn more about the Korean grand prix.

Skiing and Snowboarding

There are more than ten high quality international standard ski resorts although I have a love for Yongpyong ski Resort. Find out about the best places for winter sports.

Running and Marathons

Seoul Marathon is a great experience and one I can highly recommend and really quite different in its own way to major marathons such as London and NY. More on Seoul marathon.

Horse Racing

Seoul Racetrack is a great place to go to if you want to have a chance to escape the skyscapers for a few hours to relax. Gambling is abhored in many parts of Korean society but you nevertheless find that the racetrack is very popular.
